The short answer

If you already own one Sonos speaker, the Era 100 stereo pair is the better upgrade. If you’re starting from scratch in a 4×4 m room or larger, the Era 300 earns its premium — barely.

Soundstage

Spatial audio on the 300 is real. It is also overhyped. Most Atmos mixes flatten in a small room — the height channels simply don’t have the air they need.

Bass

The 100 hits harder than its size suggests. The 300 reaches lower but with less authority below 50 Hz than the price implies. The 300’s port loading is tuned for clarity, not slam.

Verdict

Two 100s beat one 300 for the same money. It’s not close.

What we loved

  • Spatial-audio Atmos mix is real in larger rooms
  • Reach below 50 Hz is the widest in the Sonos lineup
  • TruePlay tuning still the easiest in the category

Where it falls short

  • Atmos benefit flattens in rooms under 4 × 4 m
  • Two Era 100s outperform one Era 300 for the same money
